If you don't already have a domain name, the first thing you’ll need to do is to choose a domain name, like example.com, and register it. You can use .com, .org, .net or any other valid addresses. Remember: you only need to buy the domain name; you don’t have to pay extra for hosting service.
Now you need to point your domain to Mixform. To do so, login to your domain registrar, and update your DNS Settings:
Create or edit the ‘A’ NAME record for your naked domain (example.com)
Create or edit the ‘A’ NAME record for www
Point both records to the following IP address: 220.127.116.11
The exact procedure for doing this varies depending on your domain registrar. if you run into difficulties, try contacting your registrar, they'll be able to help you out. You can also contact us at email@example.com and we'll look up instructions more specific to your registrar. Here is a nice little tutorial for Godaddy.
You don't need to update your DNS Settings if you buy your domain through Boca Chica Domains, a domain hosting provider we work with. If you go this route, we’ll automatically configure all of your relevant DNS settings to point to your portfolio. You still need to update your Mixform account, see the last step.
Almost done! At this point, you have a domain name, and the DNS servers know to direct people to Mixform when they want to see your portfolio.
However, Mixform hosts lots of portfolios, so we have to make sure the right one is associated with this domain. Log in to Mixform, go to "Design" and click "Add Domain Name". Fill in the domain you registered, and then save your settings.
